I never realized in a million years I was hurting my children when I used food as a reward or taught them horrible eating habits. Plus it doesn't stop with just your own kids it carries on for generations.
Your kids are what you make them. Oh how that fact hits home with my family. Both my kids struggle with weight just as I have all of their lives. Not only that I see the same trend happening with my daughters kids, but not my son's kids. Which had me do some soul searching as to why there is such a difference in my grandkids.
My daughter has taught her kids the same eating habits I taught her. My daughter in law is totally different. She does not struggle with weight and has excellent eating habits which she has also taught their kids. My two sets of grandchildren are as different as night and day in their eating habits.
My daughter's kids want to snack on Ding Dongs, Hostess Cupcakes and cookies. My son's kids ask for fruit and yogurt. For me this is proof that eating habits are learned behaviour and I am guilty of teaching my children to kill themselves with the poor eating habits.
I am not advocating to never eat the things you love but do it with control. Instead of eating a half a dozen of cookies just eat one or two. Learn to replace high calorie snacks with fresh fruits.
