Do You Use Artificial Sweeteners?

I very seldom watch TV in the afternoon, even if it is on I don't listen to it. But not long a go, I just happened to have the TV on and Dr. Oz was on. Because of my concern for the health risk of using artificial sweeteners, it caught my attention and I stopped to listen.

I've heard and even learned in my research over the last several years that artificial sweeteners may cause you to gain weight instead of lose. Plus cause cravings and increase your desire for even more sugar. Which creates an addiction for unhealthy foods and drinks. Do you believe it? Well ....

I shared with you several months ago, I gained 5 pounds on my last vacation.  I immediately remembered after hearing Dr. Oz talk about artificial sweeteners that in the beginning of my weight loss journey, I was a Diet Coke addict. While I was gone, I went on a Diet Coke binge. I started with one a day and by the end of the 5th day I was up to 4 a day. If I ever doubted what I have been told about artificial sweeteners .... I don't now.

The 3 major groups of FDA-approved artificial sweeteners on the market are:

  • Aspartame (includes Equal, Nutrasweet brands)
  • Sucralose (includes Splenda brand)
  • Saccharin (includes Sweet’N Low brand)
The average American consumes 24 pounds of artificial sweeteners each year. Soda is the most common place they’re found. However, sugar substitutes are also added to nearly 6,000 other products sold in the US.

There are many claims being made thtat there are many health risk associated with artificial sweeteners listed above. Including  brain tumors, mental retardation, birth defects, epilepsy, Parkinson's Disease, Fibromyalgia, and Diabetes." And the FDA has made no move to regulate this toxic substance.

I've written about negative calorie foods before. The reason I am writing about it again is because it's one of the things that keeps me focused on my weight loss journey.

Don't let anyone try to convince you there are foods with zero calories. All foods have calories. However, the way some foods react in your body can produce the results of negative calories.
 
Negative calorie foods aren't completely void of calories. But negative calorie foods are foods that use more calories to digest than the foods themselves contain. Since the body has to work harder to process these foods, they are natural fat burners.

One of the biggest struggles I have with SlimMax is the very strong appetite suppressant it provides. I take my first pill around 11 AM and within 30 minutes, I lose the desire to eat. Which is good but also causes a few problems for me. One, I'm a diabetic and I must eat or my sugar drops to low. The other problem is you can't stop eating and continue to lose weight.

The secret for me is setting the stove timer mid morning which forces me to get up and get a snack. What Is More Important To You?

What is more important to you what the scale say or how great you look and feel in your clothes?

In the beginning of my weight loss journey what the scale said was definitely the most important to me. But as time passed I realized what I saw in the mirror was more important than a number on the scale. To be honest visually seeing the change in the shape of my body has been the fun part of my weight loss success.

I've come along way baby! I've went from wearing only dark colored clothes and longs tops never tucked in, only pants with elastic waist band... to enough confidence to wear more youthful outfits with brighter shirts tucked in, with light jeans with a zipper and a belt. My husband has started calling me  "hot momma". My Favorite Weight Loss Tip

Do you need some help staying focused on your weight loss journey?

I use a lot of tips to help me stay focused on my weight loss goal. Sometimes I fail to use them all everyday and sometimes I get in a habit of not using them for awhile or try to take short cuts.

My favorite tip and one which I think helps me the most is keeping a food log of what I eat through out the day. Which I must admit I've been skipping lately and I realized yesterday I had to get back on track with it.

Last evening I was trying to decide if I could have a Skinny Cow ice cream treat. Well I had not kept my food log for the day. So I tried to back track and remember exactly what I'd eat. Needless to say I'm sure I missed something and didn't really have a handle on if I had some extra room for a treat. If your wondering if I ate the Skinny Cow treat, no I didn't because I wasn't sure I could afford the calories.

If you're serious about staying on track with your weight loss goal. I strongly recommend you get a food log (I use a spiral notebook) and record what you're eating through out the day. It's the very best way to keep yourself accountable.

You and Fast Food

Does Fast Food Cause Depression?
As I have shared before I research almost daily anything and everything I can find regarding weight loss. Many times what I read is old research just worded differently. But today I found an article in Science Daily with information that I had not heard before. What was it?

A new study shows how eating fast food is linked to a greater risk of suffering from depression. This study has been published in the Public Health Nutrition journal.

According to the recent study headed by scientists from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada, eating commercial baked goods, in other words things like Twinkies, Ding Dong's and Chips Ahoy cookies and fast food (hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza)from fast food restaurants like McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Wendy's is linked to depression. Of courese there are many more fast food restaurants, this is just my short list.

The research results revealed that consumers of fast food, compared to those who eat little or none, are 51% more likely to develop depression. It also revealed "the more fast food you consume, the greater the risk of depression," explains Almudena Sánchez-Villegas, lead author of the study.

The study demonstrates that those participants who eat the most fast food and commercial baked goods are more likely to be single, less active and have poor dietary habits, which include eating less fruit, nuts, fish, vegetables and olive oil. Smoking and working more than 45 hours per week are other prevalent characteristics of this group.

I have been interested in emotionally eating for some time (especially since I consider myself an emotional eater. I've even been testing different natural ingredients known to stop emotional eating, so I found this article very interesting. Perhaps emotionally eating and depression is connected. I don't eat fast food very often but I do on occasion but I plan ahead and control my choices of what I select to eat based on calories. In my opinion to say you will never eat fast foods is unrealistic but I think it is important to be well informed on how it can effect your health.

Don't Wait Until You're Hungry

When you start to get a headache do you take a pain reliever before the pain gets worse or do you take it right away? Most people would answer right away.

Well you should do the same thing to control your hunger. Make sure you eat before you get to hungry. If you eat more often, you are much less likely to overeat, when you do eat.

I know it definitely works like magic for me. I find I get hungry between 3:30-4:30 PM. So I always make sure I take my afternoon SlimMax around 3 PM. So that allows about 30 minutes for the appetite suppression and craving control to kick in.

No Magic Bullet

I've missed you!  I'm back and my goal is to be more consistent sharing my weight loss journey and helping others reach their weight loss goals.

There are many reasons people want to lose weight and more often than not, it's to look more attractive and feel sexy again. I must admit it sure put a smile on my face as people began to notice I was losing weight and started complimenting me. And there is no doubt I'm enjoying how attentive my husband has become.  However, the reason I started on the weight loss journey was I had a health scare that opened my eyes to the fact, I was on the path to an early death.

Let me give you a quick update on my weight loss success. I continue to lose weight and to date have lost around 90 pounds and many many inches. I've also went from a size 26/28 plus size to a women's 18.  As I have shared before I've been obese for over 35 years and could have never achieved this success without the strong appetite and craving control of SlimMax.

The return rate for SlimMax is very low but the one thing I've noticed  is the very few people that did return it have only taken it for 3 to 10 days. This really frustrates me for one very simple reason, these people are definitely losing out on the opportunity to lose weight and get healthy.
